The landscape at Grimsthorpe, Lincolnshire, was created for the Duke of Ancaster, who gave Brown £105 for extensive plans of the landscape in 1772. The work was most likely carried out by the estate staff.
Although it appears to be nature in it's full beauty, this landscape is artificial; however it appears to be an ideal English landscape thanks to Brown's designs. The house at Grimsthorpe can be seen across Brown's graceful lake.
