Chatsworth was owned by William Cavendish, 4th Duke of Devonshire. There is little documentary evidence of Brown's presence, however, the work is attributed to him on the basis of contemporary writers such as Horace Wapole. Chatsworth is a very large park of about 1,100 acres with a complex history and features of interest from both pre and post-Brown design.
While the Cascades at Chatsworth, shown here at right, may not be Brown's style, the surrounding landscapes are definitely of a similar style, most likely done by Brown himself.
